Decorative fabric Ikat- Lines COP $350,000 Hand-woven decorative fabric in cotton, with ikat design. This fabric is a reproduction of the traditional Ikat, well known for its majestic workmanship. This fabric features a blue background and tribal designs, which are very typical in the making of these fabrics. Ikat is one of the most complex dyeing methods in the world, where the threads are dyed before weaving begins, preventing the dye from penetrating into some sections by tying several threads together with a water-resistant material, such as a vegetable fibre. After the dye is applied, the knots are loosened and the pattern appears on the fibres. The process is repeated as many times as colours are desired. Finally, the threads are woven on the loom, usually a backstrap loom on which the weavers use their own bodies to maintain the tension of the threads.
