Handcrafted in Talavera pottery, historically used for washing, food preparation, kneading or even for various domestic functions, the type of ceramic basin is usually in the shape of a large bowl. Talavera pottery is a distinctive art form brought to Mexico from Spain. Later, artisans in Puebla, Mexico incorporated their own designs, creating the blue and white oyster patterns traditionally associated with Talavera Poblana. Today there are also more "contemporary" designs that include yellow, green, orange, mauve, black and red.
