This textile called Bogolan or Bògòlanfini, is a type of traditional West African weaving closely linked to the culture of Mali. Its origin goes back to the Bambara ethnic group where the word bogo means clay, mud and Lan means to make; therefore bogolán means "made with clay", it represents the cultural identity of a people. The predominant colours are ochre, yellow, ivory, brown and black, which combined with good taste give a singular and unique result. This creates very characteristic patterns with themes, geometric shapes and symbolism based on the proverbs and society of the people. Therefore it has a great cultural as well as aesthetic value. Nowadays its social use is basically decorative, to be used as an art painting or as a home accessory, such as bedspreads, tablecloths, upholstery, cushions.
